Continuation of visits to art and luxury craft workshops with our 2nd year Bachelor Luxury Fashion Design students with the discovery of a new field of activity: crystal.

France, the historic home of this exceptional material, has managed to maintain a tradition and know-how of the highest quality that are recognized and envied throughout the world. Historic brands and independent artisans continue to passionately produce pieces that will be found on the finest tables, in the most beautiful homes and international hotels.

This is how Valéry Klein, Companion Master Crystalmaker established in Baccarat since 1980 and in Vallauris since 1997, welcomed 4 students and their teachers, Mrs. Sarfati and Mr. Barbero, for a time of discovery and exchanges. Having worked in the greatest establishments – Baccarat , Daum, Saint Louis – Valéry Klein has since focused on creating exceptional pieces, sometimes weighing more than 80 kilos, and high-end at the same time as functional products used on a daily basis due to changing usage.

Introduction with a demonstration of cutting on a crystal vase... happy coincidence, here emerges a cane pattern, a nod to the Dior house ! Then explanations of the different product ranges and techniques: series for tableware, diamond cutting, colored crystal in the pure tradition, chandeliers with tassels, unique and decorative pieces in glass paste, up to the latest more contemporary explorations with crystal slabs with LED lighting integrated into the contemporary furniture of Antoine Jourdan , formerly of Vuitton and Gucci…

Tradition and innovation were on the agenda for this exciting and enlightening visit!
